Addressing persistent gaps inEV infrastructure and energyaccess, SparkCharge has emerged as a pioneer in mobile, off-grid electric vehicle (EV) charging, bringing scalable solutions to locations and industries often underserved by traditional infrastructure. As fleet operators, delivery networks, and rideshare companies seek sustainable options, SparkCharge’s innovative EV charging approach eliminates one of the key barriers to electrification: the lack of accessible, fast, and flexible charging.
The global EV market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 23% through 2030, with commercial fleets making up a significant portion of new EV deployments. Yet, according to the International Energy Agency, over 40% of US counties still lack any public DC fast charging infrastructure, underscoring the urgent need for mobile and flexible solutions like those SparkCharge provides.
In a recent development, SparkCharge has raised $30.5 million to accelerate the deployment of its mobile EV charging solutions across the US, Canada, and Mexico. This latest capital infusion includes a $15.5 million Series A-1 funding round, bringing the company’s total funding raised to date to $55 million.
Monte’s Fam led the investment, which included high-impact firms like Collab Capital, Cleveland Avenue, Non-sibi Ventures, Elemental Impact, and MarcyPen. In addition, SparkCharge secured a $15 million venture loan facility from Horizon Technology Finance Corporation.
SparkCharge has also secured non-dilutive equipment financing through CSC Leasing, allowing the company to scale hardware deployments without diluting shareholder equity—a strategic move that demonstrates financial discipline and investor confidence.
The funds will scale operations, build out SparkCharge’s team of EV charging experts, and expand its Charging-as-a-Service (CaaS) network. The company also aims to strengthen strategic partnerships across various sectors, supporting delivery services, autonomous vehicles, OEMs, transportation hubs, and more.
Founded in 2017, SparkCharge began with a mission to remove the limitations of EV charging infrastructure. The startup was founded byJoshua Aviv,an entrepreneur with a background in economics and energy policy.
He is a board member of the Mass Mobility Hub, ClimaTech Live, and the NECEC. In 2022, he was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year and was recently named to Forbes’ BLK 50 list. Josh also had the distinct honour of introducing President Biden at the CHIPS and Science Act bill signing at the White House.
Aviv’s leadership has been instrumental in SparkCharge’s growth. Under his tenure, the company has expanded from its initial focus on roadside charging to a comprehensive suite of services for commercial fleets, event organisers, and even disaster relief agencies seeking resilient charging solutions during grid outages.
Aviv saw a critical bottleneck in EV adoption: while car makers were innovating rapidly, the grid infrastructure needed to charge those vehicles lagged behind, especially for fleets and underserved areas. Born in Washington, DC, and attending Syracuse University, he launched SparkCharge as a student.
As per the information shared with TFN, Josh Aviv, an African-American and was inspired by watching and learning about entrepreneurship from his grandfather. Josh’s grandfather ran a freight logistics company that shuttled airplane parts between Dulles International Airport and the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Josh credits the initial idea for SparkCharge, in part, to an undergraduate class in environmental and resource economics at Syracuse University. In this class, the professor said, “If anyone wants to solve a big issue and make a bunch of money, figure out an answer for EV charging. See me after class if you want to work on this issue.”
Josh was the only student to visit the professor after class, and their discussion sparked SparkCharge’s eventual creation a few years later.
SparkCharge delivers Charging-as-a-Service (CaaS) via three main products designed for flexibility, mobility, and scalability:
SparkCharge’s proprietary “Roadie” system—one of the first truly portable, modular fast chargers—has been a game-changer for roadside assistance providers and fleet operators alike. The company’s BoostEV app, launched in 2021, allows users to order mobile charging on demand, much like ordering a rideshare or food delivery, and is now available in over a dozen major US cities.
Together, these solutions have enabled SparkCharge to deliver over 4,000,000 kWh of energy while eliminating the need for more than 500,000 gallons of gasoline, a measurable environmental win.
SparkCharge’s main competitors are Yoshi Mobility and BP Pulse. Unlike most EV charging companies that rely on expensive and time-consuming infrastructure build-outs, SparkCharge offers zero setup costs, immediate deployment, and guaranteed uptime. Its mobility and off-grid capabilities are ideal for hard-to-reach or underserved locations, such as ports, temporary fleet depots, and even special events.
Furthermore, SparkCharge’s technology is designed to be modular and scalable, allowing customers to increase capacity as their needs grow. The company’s chargers can be stacked to deliver more power or deployed in multiple locations simultaneously—an advantage over fixed charging stations.
Fleet operators, 87% of whom expect EVs in their fleets within five years, still cite charging as a major concern. SparkCharge is perfectly positioned to fill this gap. Its solutions bypass the need for grid upgrades, city permits, and downtime, giving businesses fast-track access to electrification.
The company’s selection as the official EV Charging Partner for the 2025 Masters Tournament and a strategic partnership with Pioneer Power further solidifies its market credibility.
With a fresh round of funding and strategic backing, SparkCharge is gearing up for aggressive North American expansion. Its flexible CaaS model provides a rare combination of tech innovation, operational simplicity, and environmental impact. As the EV market grows and fleets demand faster solutions, SparkCharge’s mobile, off-grid approach may prove to be the essential link in the EV ecosystem.
From disrupting EV infrastructure to helping companies meet sustainability goals, SparkCharge is on track to redefine how the world charges, one mobile unit at a time.
“This raise reflects both the strength of the SparkCharge growth story as well as the market opportunity ahead as electric fleets become the standard for so many prominent brands,” said Josh Aviv, Founder and CEO of SparkCharge.
“We’re uniquely focused on taking the anxiety, guesswork, and delays – all still barriers for adoption – out of the commercial EV charging experience. With the backing of our committed investors and a hardworking team of charging experts, our market-ready products and services are ideal for organizations seeking to lower costs and improve operational efficiencies of their fleet management. We’re proud to accelerate this adoption by growing our team, expanding our market reach, and deepening our portfolio of strategic partnerships and customer installs.”
“We’re excited with the progress we’ve made being first to market with our off-grid EV Charging Network”, saidDavid Piperno, CFO of SparkCharge.
“In addition to closing our Series A-1 and Venture Debt funding, we’ve also secured non-dilutive financing with CSC Leasing that enables us to finance our equipment requirements to continue to support our growth. I’m thrilled to continue partnering with Josh, David, and the entire SparkCharge team. As EV adoption accelerates, particularly in commercial fleets, the critical bottleneck remains charging infrastructure,” saidEd Jean-Louis, Founder, CEO & CIO of Monte’s Fam.
“SparkCharge’s breakthrough EV charging technology offers a portable solution in a market dominated by slower and costlier fixed infrastructure approaches,” said Gerald A. Michaud, President of Horizon. “Technology makes clean energy more accessible for businesses, and we are excited to support SparkCharge’s continued growth.”
